What is an Internship?

At Captain’s House we love to develop leaders with practical experience in ministry and business.

Grow as a leader!

As an intern, you’ll have the opportunity to complete a personality and gifting tests as well as an interview with our team serve. You’ll serve in an area that best pairs your unique qualities with open opportunities such as: Generations Ministry, Worship, Marketing & Media, Special Events & Promotions, or Administration. Interns learn from our pastors, staff, and other key leaders. Requirements include Sunday mornings and one in-office workday each week as well as remote planning responsibilities with your team. Positions are both paid and unpaid with most internships at least two semesters. Shorter terms (summer) will be accepted on a limited basis. Upcoming internships begin as early as fall 2020 and can be for college credit, where applicable.

Administration

At Captain’s House we love to develop leaders with practical experience in ministry and business.

Do you love organizing, communicating with others, and developing strong systems? An administration internship with Captain’s House will help you develop skills for the most complex work environments. You’ll help to manage organizational records and also develop high-performing teams through guidance and teamwork, work with various groups to build community and belongingness within the church body, utilize your gifts in ministry, and find to effectively serve the Pastors to carry out the vision for the local church. A church administration internship at Captain’s House is unlike any other you’ve had. You’ll be challenged. You’ll be inspired. And you’ll be proud. No matter what you do here, you’ll be part of something big.

Requirements

  • Very strong organizational abilities with attention to detail and ability to execute a wide variety of tasks
  • A love for efficient systems and an ability to build them
  • Impeccable communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work in ambiguity, to create new events, and execute under the vision of a leader
  • A positive, team-oriented, can-do attitude that supports the overall mission of the church and the Lead Pastors
  • Ability to thrive in a non-denominational Christian atmosphere where teaching the Word of God is primary
  • Ability to recognize, recruit, and motivate volunteers for one time and ongoing projects
  • A strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, passion for the local church, and/ or desire for future ministry
  • The ability to go with the flow but to bring order and structure where needed

Generations

As a Generations Ministry intern, you might work directly with kids in the nursery, develop materials for a weekend kid’s curriculum, mentor at –risk students at a local school, design the social media campaign, or plan exciting special events for students. As a Captain’s House intern, you’ll help us create services and events that illustrate the Bible in a way that kids and youth understand. You’ll also learn firsthand what it takes to manage an effective children’s ministry. We have a large variety of opportunities suitable to your interests and desired experiences.

Requirements

  • The ability to recruit, train, and lead generations of team volunteers on a weekly basis
  • Love for kids, education, and/ or mentorship
  • The ability to go with the flow but to bring order and structure where needed
  • A love for efficient systems and an ability to build them
  • Ability to recognize and recruit volunteers for nursery, children, and youth departments
  • Work as part of the Generations team, understanding how various events and activities support the ministry at large
  • Ability to thrive in a non-denominational Christian atmosphere where teaching kids the Word of God is the primary goal

Marketing and Digital Media

Do you have a passion for effective marketing that has lasting impact on the local church?

Marketing & Digital Media Interns are part of the Create team that develop media and oversee cutting edge media that reaches all generations. As an Intern, you may help us create awesome graphics, unify the digital identity, run audio/visual equipment, work to build and maintain the website, digital marketing, or work to stream live services, upload podcasts, or champion the social media campaigns. You’ll learn the many facets of the Create Department during the weekend services as you fuse your passion for worship and/ or digital media to help us create services and events that illustrate the Bible in a way that anyone can understand.

Special Events & Promotions

As a Special Events & Promotions intern, you get real-world experience while
making tangible changes in the Houston community.

Interns host major and on-going events throughout the year. You might plan a family fun day after a weekend worship service, host a movie on the lawn party for the local community, and coordinate the Next Steps classes that happen weekly or assist with a holiday kid’s party. You’ll also learn every facet of church operations that make up the primary special event- Sunday services.

As a Captain’s House intern, you’ll fuse your passion for organization and fun to help us create services and events that build a sense of community and fun in church. You’ll also learn firsthand what it takes to recruit, train, and communicate with volunteers on an ongoing basis. We have a large variety of opportunities suitable to your interests and desired experiences.

  • A love to have fun and a desire to help others become connected through social activities
  • Ability to work in ambiguity, to create new events, and execute under the vision of a leader

Worship

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to build a church worship team from the ground up?

Are you passionate about using your gift of singing or playing an instrument to reach people for Christ? At Captain’s House, worship interns get real‐world experience to lead others and build the worship department from the ground up. You might lead or sing during weekend worship services, help to build the skill of future singers/ musicians, or work with the create team to deliver multimedia messages. You’ll also learn firsthand what it takes to manage an effective creative department within a church plant. Worship interns are held to a high standard of personal commitment to Jesus and the Dream team Honor Code; positions are limited.

Requirements

  • Strong musical abilities (singing, instruments, audio, etc.) and love for worship arts and
  • Strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and progressive daily relationship
  • Pliable heart that is able to support the Create Department and vision of the Lead Pastors
  • The ability to recruit, train, and lead people in worship atmosphere on a weekly basis
  • The ability to go with the flow but to bring order and structure where needed
  • A love for efficient systems and an ability to build them
  • Ability to recognize and recruit volunteers for creative arts departments
  • Work as part of the Create team, understanding how various events and activities support the ministry at large
